The Ten Commandments

By: Edwin Daniels
It is impossible to think about our world without these ten commandments? It seems obvious for the normative person. These are the fundaments of the law in the world. Actually, The US Supreme Court has the statue of Moses and the Ten Commandments ss the basis of human's constitution. In the US, there are over one 180,000 Memorial boards of the ten commandments. These commandments look obvious? Yet, many parts are controversial today.

You shall have no other gods before me" – Agnosticism phenomenon is spreading all over the world. The existence of god or anything spiritual is questioned. "Remember the Sabbath day" – From a world of working 7 days a week, now we moved to working 5 days a week. Nevertheless, there are today something like 40 million force labor-slaves. And… there are much more who are slaves by own free. Slaves to different electronic devices and apps. "Honor your father and mother" – Nothing seems more obvious than that, but there are countries that had to pass a law to force the children to visit their parents at least once a year.
The biggest challenge of the modern world: "You shall not covet your neighbor's wife. You shall not desire your neighbor's house, his field… or anything that belongs to your neighbor. (Devarim - Deuteronomy - Chapter 5) See, the entire world's economy is built on desire. What happens If you take away the greed and desire? No shopping, businesses collapse and the profits of Amazon and Alibaba go down. So how can we not desire our neighbor's new car? Only if we believe that each person is born as a unique exemplar in this world. Each person has his unique duty and his own destiny in this world. Accordingly, he gets his unique set of tools to deal with that duty. Only if the person is aware to his destiny and the toolset he got, he understands that no need to desire whatever his neighbor has.
